National Institute of Statistics

which is a part of the Ministry of Planning, is the focal point for the statistics sector in Cambodia. The National Institute of Statistics (NIS) collects and harmonizes statistics provided by sectoral data-presenting offices, and also collects raw data through household and institutional surveys, and conducts public censuses (or surveys) such as the Population Census, Agriculture Survey, and Economic Census. Many development partners have provided financial and technical assistance to the NIS since 1993. Cambodia has a decentralized (or sectoral) statistical structure. There are statistical offices and divisions within the Departments of Planning and Statistics of various ministries, and within the planning and statistical units at the provincial and district levels. The NIS is led by a Director General, who is assisted by Deputy Director Generals. It has 8 departments:

The National Institute of Statistics (NIS) is preparing a defined Sub-decree on Official Statistics. The coordination mechanisms include the SAC (Statistical Advisory Council) and the SCC (Statistical Coordination Committee).
